A recent survey has shown significant price increases in various food items in Brazil over the past year, with rice pudding and barbecue leading the charge at 52.45% and 34.4% respectively. Other products such as condensed milk, beef, sausage, sugar, cheese, corn, pasta, peanuts, popcorn, sweets, corn meal, milk, and wine also saw price hikes that exceeded inflation. In contrast, apples and potatoes experienced price drops. The rise in prices is attributed to reduced meat and soy supply for export, especially to China, and water shortages affecting crop production. Economist Matheus Peçanha suggests consumers can mitigate the impact by comparing prices, opting for less well-known brands, and buying in bulk to get discounts.
