A total of 36 tons of dragon fruit, also known as pitahaya, grown in the Mayan area of Quintana Roo, Mexico, has been exported to the United States. This is part of a larger shipment of 300 tons, with the goal of generating around 50 million pesos. The farmers have agreed to sell the fruit to the Wuda company at stable prices, cutting out the need for intermediaries. The export is expected to boost the local economy and is sourced from more than 37 tons harvested in a 15-hectare area in the community of Melchor Ocampo.
