Brazil: Fruits signal lower prices, carrots reverse bullish move

The reduction of papaya and watermelon prices offer good prospects for fruit consumption. According to the 5th Bulletin of the Brazilian Horticultural Market Modernization Program (Prohort), released this Tuesday (17) by the National Supply Company (Conab), the low demand for watermelon has kept prices stable or even lower in some markets, especially at CEAGESP/SP (-40.48%), with an average price of R$ 1.50/kg, and at Ceasa in Goiânia/GO (-36.56%), where the fruit reached a price average of R$ 2.03/kg. Papaya, on the other hand, was at high levels at the beginning of the year and decreased a little in April, although it may return to the upward bias this month. Other fruits, such as bananas, oranges and apples, had oscillations between the wholesale markets studied, with emphasis on the reduction in the average price of oranges in Ceasa in Rio Branco/AC (-26.84%) and of apples in Vitória/ES ( -18.46%).
