PSD/Azores defends support for the preservation of the Ramo Grande bovine breed in Portugal

Deputies from the PSD/Azores da Terceira today defended support for the preservation of oxen of the Ramo Grande bovine breed, “the only indigenous breed in the Region”, whose breeders have been affected because of the covid-19 pandemic. In a note sent to the newsrooms, the party said that, in a request sent to the Regional Legislative Assembly, the social democrats questioned the tutelage “on the perspective of creating this type of support” for the cattle breed of the Ramo Grande, which originates in the several breeds from Portugal brought by the first settlers. The PSD/Azores deputies elected by Terceira, who visited a breeder in Vila das Lajes, underline that for many years that breed played “an essential role for farmers in Terceira, especially those from Ramo Grande – northeastern part of Terceira island.
