PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) President Director, Mohammad Abdul Ghani, has urged the government to halt sugar imports until local farmers achieve sugar production targets. He assures that once production reaches 8 tons, farmers will be able to compete with imported sugar. Ghani also suggested a purchasing price of IDR 12,000 for sugar at this productivity level to benefit farmers and cited that sugar farmers' trust in PTPN has grown due to the company's support in selling products and maintaining a fair average price. PTPN has also established an organization to address sugar cane issues from planning to harvesting, and is confident that with full control, sugar production could reach 18 tons.
