The Center for Economic Research in Agriculture (CAPA) predicts that tomato purchase prices for 2021 will remain steady at the current ranges, with average prices of 0.63 BGN/kg for regular tomatoes and 1.15 BGN/kg for greenhouse tomatoes. The average annual prices for tomatoes in 2020 were 4% higher than in 2019, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI). Cucumber prices are expected to remain unchanged in 2021, with average purchase prices of 0.74 BGN/kg for field cucumbers and 1.25 BGN/kg for greenhouse cucumbers. Pepper purchase prices are also anticipated to remain stable at 0.76 BGN/kg. The vegetable sector has been significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis due to its reliance on separate retail markets and specialty stores, and the increase in domestic production could influence price trends.
