In the 2021/22 season, Russia emerged as a dominant exporter of grain and processed products, with a total export volume of 11.5 million tons. The export reach expanded to 122 countries, marking a record high, with 64 countries increasing their purchases compared to the previous year. The Middle East was the top destination, followed by Africa and Asia. Notably, Africa showed a significant surge in interest for Russian wheat. The European Union (EU) managed the second-largest imports, despite sanctions, with 13 out of 22 countries increasing their purchases. This includes Latvia's resumption of safflower imports and Belgium's record pea purchases.
