Directors of the Association of Potato Growers of Moldova are hoping that large potato growers will reconsider their plans to reduce potato acreage this year. Due to autumndrought, the total area of winter crops for the 2022 harvest decreased by almost 100,000 ha. The association hopes that growers will not significantly reduce the acreage for potatoes and vegetables during the spring planting season. Potato companies currently import 20-30% less seed potatoes than last year, and seed potato prices are rising in Poland and Romania. Many Moldovan potato growers are hesitant to buy more due to increasing prices and uncertain weather conditions for planting.
