Of those 460,000 tons, about 112,000 tons of seed potatoes found their way to Asian destinations. In January, about 12,000 tons went that way. This sales season, Iraq and Saudi Arabia in particular are buying much more than in previous years. The latter has already bought more than 20,000 tons of Dutch seed potatoes, almost double the volume in the previous year. Iraq imported 19,000 tons so far this season. Africa bought 188,000 tons of Dutch seed potatoes up to and including 31 January. That is 20,000 tonnes more than last year at the same measurement point. Algeria is the largest purchasing country with 88,000 tons so far, followed by Egypt (44,000 tons) and Morocco (28,000 tons).
