Located in Cruz das Almas, 150 kilometers from the capital Salvador, Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura is the only one of the 43 Decentralized Units of Embrapa in the state of Bahia. It emerged from the East Agronomic Institute (IAL), built in the 1950s, later called the East Agricultural Research and Experimentation Institute (Ipeal), whose mission was to develop technologies for regional agriculture. At the time, work with citrus stood out. The Unit was officially established on June 13, 1975, with the aim of carrying out and coordinating research to increase production and productivity, improve product quality, reduce production costs and enable the use of underutilized areas for cassava and tropical fruit trees.
