According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, rice false smut has been confirmed in 29,700 hectares across the country as of September 16 this year. By region, Jeollanam-do has the highest with 13,300 hectares, followed by Chungcheongnam-do with 7,000 hectares, Gyeongsangbuk-do with 4,700 hectares, and Jeollabuk-do with 1,200 hectares. Rice false smut is a disease caused by a fungus that can occur throughout the growth period, but it mainly occurs in the later stages of growth. It is transmitted through infected seeds, diseased rice straw, soil, and debris, and in high-temperature, humid environments and soils with unbalanced nutrients.
