The international beef market is experiencing a surge in demand post-pandemic, presenting a significant opportunity for meat-producing countries. However, Paraguay faces challenges in establishing a strong position in the market due to its reliance on Chile and lack of access to major markets like the US and China. Former Uruguayan Minister, Roberto Vázquez Platero, emphasized the need for Paraguay to improve global access, differentiate its meat products, and formalize systems for sustainable and traceable production to compete effectively. He also called for a restructuring of the Paraguayan Meat Institute and the formation of a body to set industry guidelines, with a focus on promoting the product and its meat cuts in markets.
