In 2024, Russia saw a significant increase in the production of pollock surimi by 47%, reaching a total of 70.8 thousand tons. This places Russia among the top five global producers of surimi, a product used in crab sticks and other semi-finished fish products. While other countries were reducing surimi production, Russia's output grew, contributing 7% to the global surimi market. The quality of Russian surimi is highlighted due to its fresh pollock catches. The production is mainly done by seven fishing vessels and three coastal factories, with marine production being the majority but coastal processing showing the highest growth. Russia has managed to satisfy domestic demand for surimi raw materials, moving from 100% imported products to 90% domestic, high-quality raw materials. The country is also looking to expand its cooperation with Vietnam in fish production.
