The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) in Chile is taking preventive measures against the African Swine Fever (ASF) following its detection in the Dominican Republic, a country that until now was the last continent with no reported cases of the disease. To safeguard Chile's ASF-free status, the country has stepped up border controls, especially for flights from the Dominican Republic, Panama, and the Caribbean, and increased clinical surveillance in pigs and at slaughterhouses. SAG is also collaborating with international organizations like the OIE and FAO to develop strategies for preventing and controlling ASF. Pig owners are encouraged to report any symptoms suggestive of ASF to the SAG.
