Santa Catarina is Brazil's second-largest plum producer, covering 1,072 hectares and accounting for 30% of the country's total production. The region is projected to see a 10% increase in production for the 2021/22 harvest, thanks to a productivity boost of 30% over the past two harvests. This surge is expected to bolster both local sales and producer profits. In the previous year, Santa Catarina witnessed a 12% increase in production, reaching over 18,000 tons, with a gross production value of R$34.78 million. The Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe region is the hub of plum production in the state, contributing to over 69% of the total. Brazil's plum production was estimated at 50 thousand tons in 2020, with Santa Catarina's share accounting for 17% of the national volume traded. The state's plum sales saw significant growth, with over BRL 21.9 million traded in 2021, marking a 30% increase from the previous year.
