The conservation of sharks and rays (chondrichthyans) in the Mediterranean represents one of the greatest current challenges for the sustainable management of marine ecosystems. In this context, the protocol for the handling and release of chondrichthyans is born, developed collaboratively within the framework of the TIRRAQUI project, with the active participation of the Guitar-Hero project from the University of Murcia, E-lasmobranc from the University of Alicante, and SARKO from the Marilles Foundation. The TIRRAQUI project is part of the current strategies for the conservation and sustainable management of marine resources, aligned with the objectives of the FEMPA and the Biodiversity Foundation, especially concerning the protection of marine biodiversity, as its main objective is to evaluate the interaction of trawl fisheries and small-scale fisheries with chondrichthyan species and their habitats in the LICs, ZECs of the RN2000 and ISRA areas (Important Shark and Ray Areas) ...
