Netherlands seed potato export catches up in April

The Dutch seed potato export made up a lot of ground in April. In that month, more than 100,000 tons of certified seed potatoes were delivered within the European Union. This is evident from figures from the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO). Belgium and Germany were the main buyers of Dutch seed potatoes. Germany imported more than 44,500 tons. The country thus made up a large part of the backlog that had accumulated in March. In total, the Germans purchased just over 96,000 tons of seed potatoes at the end of April. That is about 12,000 tons less than in the same period last year, but comparable to the export in 2020-2021. According to the German statistics agency Destatis, the total potato area in Germany remains fairly stable with a total area of 267,000 hectares.
