The organic agricultural area in the Netherlands has increased to 76,375 ha in 2021, making up 3.5% of the total area, while in Belgium it amounted to 102,413 ha, approximately 7.3% of the total area, making Belgium's share of organic agricultural land more than twice as large as the Netherlands. The organic agricultural area in both countries has been steadily increasing, with a 72% increase in the Netherlands since 2012 and a 59% increase in Belgium. Across Europe, the organic agricultural area has also been increasing, with Austria having the highest percentage of organic agricultural land at 26% of total cultivated land in 2021.
