Russian shrimp catches have seen a significant increase in the first quarter of 2025, with a 29% rise compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching a total of 5.4 thousand tons. This growth rate more than doubles the average increase seen in shrimp production over the past year. The Azov Sea has been a major contribution to this increase, with a 33% rise in shrimp catch since the start of 2025. The total shrimp catch for 2024 was 27 thousand tons, marking a 14% increase from the year before. Despite this domestic production increase, Russia still imported 85 thousand tons of shrimp in 2024. The demand for shrimp in Russia is on the rise, as shown by retail sales figures and a survey indicating that 76% of Russians would like to consume more fish and seafood. Global aquaculture shrimp production is expected to rise by 2% in 2025, reaching 6.1 million tons.
