Thailand has announced the opening of its market for table grapes and pears of Spanish origin, following intensive collaboration between the two countries' governments. This development is a result of the Spanish ministry's efforts to negotiate with third country phytosanitary authorities and marks a significant achievement after a unilateral market closure by Thailand in 2010. The Thai Department of Agriculture has approved import protocols and has applied to the Plant Quarantine Committee for official publication. Additionally, a Spanish cherry warehouse has been authorized to perform cold treatments at origin, a practice only previously authorized in Australia, which is expected to boost cherry exports. The ministry will provide information on the export procedures and phytosanitary requirements for accessing this new market.
