Spain: Castile and Leon with a decrease in the cereal harvest

Of the forecasted 5 million tons of cereals (5.04 million), wheat production is estimated at 2.5 million, 17% less than the average of the last five years. As far as barley is concerned, production of 2.1 million tonnes is forecast, 31% below the average of the last five years, partly due to a decrease in the cultivated area. Oats are estimated at 143,000 tonnes, rye at 130,000 tonnes and triticale at 93,000 tonnes. Taking into account the latest cereal prices, corresponding to the end of the previous year and the first prices of the current year, the estimated value of this production should be around 1.7 billion euros (17% more than in the previous year ). However, it will be necessary to wait for the evolution of prices in the coming months of the campaign.
