As of May 2023, the sowing of various crops in France, as reported by the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, shows a mixed progress. With an overall area of 2.1 million hectares, similar to previous years, the sowing of corn and potatoes is nearly complete at 97% and 93% respectively. Spring barley, seed peas, oats, sugar beet, and soybeans also show significant progress. However, the sowing area for corn has decreased due to last year's drought, while sunflower sowing has increased. Despite the satisfactory condition of the sown crops, they have been marked by cooler weather, leading to the need for fungal disease protection, particularly due to recent rainy weather. The autumn-sown wheat, barley, and canola are in good condition overall, provided no extreme weather conditions occur until harvest.
