In Ukraine, in 2022/23 MY sugar production will be 1.1 million metric tons (MMT), which is 23% less than previously estimated. This is stated in the report of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Ukrainian sugar producers are sandwiched between domestic and foreign markets. Thus, the domestic market of sugar production in Ukraine is gradually shrinking, but is the lion's share of consumers. At the same time, fluctuations in world prices require the accumulation of stocks. The armed conflict with Russia puts local sugar producers under even greater strain in terms of production and exports, the report said.
