Spanish household consumption of sunflower oil has seen a significant increase of 38% in the past year, reaching 158.3 million liters, while olive oil consumption has decreased by 10.8% to 274 million liters. Despite the higher price of olive oil, it still remains the preferred choice in Spanish households. The rise in sunflower oil consumption is attributed to its lower price, particularly appealing to households facing economic challenges. The Spanish Sunflower Association predicts this trend to persist, linked to the recovery of the hospitality industry's demand. The supply of sunflower oil in Spain is secured through imports, as the national production cannot meet the demand.
