Supply glut has led to a significant drop in the prices of tomatoes and coriander in retail and wholesale markets across Pune and other provinces in India. The price of tomatoes has fallen from Rs 70 to Rs 30, and a bunch of coriander is now sold up to Rs 10, down from up to Rs 40 a month ago. The increase in intake of these vegetables into the markets is the main cause of the price decrease. However, tomato farmers in Andhra Pradesh are facing severe distress due to the price slump, with some even dumping their produce. Farmers are seeking government subsidies and market rates.
