The article highlights the potential of sweet potato cultivation in the northern part of Veracruz, Mexico, particularly in the municipalities of Pueblo Viejo, Tampico Alto, and Ozuluama. Despite having vast fertile lands, many remain idle due to economic challenges and a lack of market interest. Sweet potatoes are a cost-effective crop with a high yield per hectare and are suitable for both human consumption and cattle feed. Currently, 15-20 producers are cultivating sweet potatoes on a small scale, primarily for self-consumption and local supply. There is potential for higher profit by selling to other states like Nuevo León and the United States. The article stresses the need for agricultural producers to organize and unify their efforts to achieve competitive pricing and emphasizes the nutritional benefits of sweet potatoes.
