The agricultural sector in Tajikistan's Sughd region has experienced a significant boost in its export activities, with a total of 90.563 thousand tons of vegetables and fruits exported over the first nine months of 2020, marking a 20.5 thousand ton increase compared to the same period last year. The export value for these commodities reached $12.7 million, a notable improvement from $4.3 million in 9 months of 2019. Onion and dried apricots were the top export products, with onion seeing a substantial increase of over 16,000 tons and dried apricots reaching over 8,800 tons. Although the export volume of fresh apricots decreased due to a poor harvest, their export value increased due to higher prices. The region also started exporting citrus fruits this year, and saw an increase in the export of various other fruits like grapes, melons, and peaches. However, there was a decrease in the export of walnuts and other fruits such as dried figs, grapes, plums, apples, and pears. Overall, the Sughd region exported 36 types of fruit and vegetable products to over 15 countries.
