Bart highlighted the critical importance of the Kenyan market to Europe and the urgent need to tackle the False Codling Moth (FCM) issue, which affects key exports like citrus, avocados, and roses. FCM has caused interceptions of Kenyan roses at EU ports due to strict phytosanitary regulations. The Kenya Flower Council (KFC), in partnership with KEPHIS, the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB), and international allies, is working to mitigate FCM's impact by promoting best practices, aligning with international standards, and advocating for supportive policies. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is also contributing through technical assistance, funding, and facilitating collaborations. The Market Access Project aims to improve the phytosanitary standards of Kenyan produce to ensure its global market competitiveness.
