Farmers in Lindi Region, Tanzania, are planning to start commercial cassava farming using improved varieties, following a farming training where they learned about eight new varieties developed by the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI). These new varieties are disease and pest resistant, high-yielding, and mature quickly, providing greater profit for the farmers. However, the farmers are seeking access to these improved planting materials and further training on modern farming technologies. The improved cassava varieties can be obtained from TARI Naliendele and approved seed producers in the Southern Zone.
