Thailand's Kaitai Research Center says fruit exports will increase in 2023

Updated Aug 17, 2023
Thailand's Kaitai Research Center recently reported that fruit is Thailand's largest export food category, accounting for 35% of Thailand's total food export value. In the first half of 2023, the total export value of fresh/refrigerated/processed fruit reached US$5.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 %. The main supporting factor is the return to growth on the basis of a low base in 2022, especially orders from China, an important export market (accounting for 87% of Thailand's total fruit export value in 2022), are growing well after China resumes the opening of border ports. In addition, the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand has also expanded the export of Thai fruits to new markets through trade negotiations and active marketing promotion, such as durian exports to South Korea, grapefruit exports to the United States and the United Arab Emirates, and longan exports to India and Indonesia. Kaitai Research Center expects that in 2023 In the second half of the year, Thailand’s fruit export will face various challenges, including the fact that the fruit export season has passed, the economy of major export markets such as the United States may slow down and there are still uncertainties, which will put pressure on demand and orders, and climate change will not only affect the future.
