Europe is planning to have an effective vaccine against African swine fever (ASF) ready by 2024, a disease that poses a significant risk to pig herds globally. The vaccine plans are set to begin in 2024 in Lithuania, Romania, and Kenya, and the project has three vaccine prototypes for wild boar and domestic pigs, with promising results. ASF is a disease that has spread to five continents, and control measures need to be adapted to each country's specific circumstances. The control of wild fauna, biosecurity, and collaboration among administrations and farmers are crucial in addressing this issue.
