The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has set the authorized area for new vineyard plantings in 2026 at 903 hectares and has limited it to a maximum of 0.1 hectares/year in the Cava Designation of Origin (DOP) area for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028. MAPA has approved two resolutions, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of last December 27, which establish the authorized areas for new vineyard plantings. The area of 903 hectares corresponds to 0.1% of the vineyard planting area as of July 31, 2025, according to the text of one of the resolutions. On the other hand, MAPA has decided that the area available for new planting authorizations in the geographical area delimited by the "Cava" DOP will be a maximum of 0.1 hectares/year for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028.
