By Mateus Maia Brasília, 12/29/2025 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) issued a decree to postpone the requirement of the new National Identity Card (NIC) for the granting and renewal of the fishing ban insurance. Without the rule published today in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), the document would have been required starting at the beginning of 2026, that is, in 3 days. According to the decree, the granting and renewal of the benefit now follows the schedule regulated by the government. However, there are legal doubts about when this deadline is. According to Broadcast, the technical teams of the involved ministries, along with the Civil House and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, are meeting to reach an agreement on the new deadlines.
