The black cherry beetle (Capnodis tenebrionis) continues to cause damage to cherry plantations in the Blagoevgrad region. According to the latest report on the phytosanitary status of agricultural crops in our country, in September, an increased density of the pest was recorded in the area of the Petrich Nuclear Power Plant, reaching up to 5–6 adult insects per tree. Under the canopies of the affected cherries, leaves falling without stalks have been observed—a clear sign of pest activity. In severely weakened trees, 1–3 larvae per tree have been recorded, whose feeding under the bark and in the root system further weakens the plants. Farmers in the area have marked the affected plantations and have undertaken treatment with entomopathogenic nematodes.
