Zhanjiang Customs in China has conducted a special campaign to combat agricultural product smuggling, resulting in the destruction of 9 gangs involved in smuggling dried fruits, the arrest of 19 suspects, and the seizure of 7 smuggling warehouses. The suspected smuggling involves imported cashew nuts and figs, with a case value of approximately 134 million yuan. This is part of a larger investigation into a smuggling ring responsible for the smuggling of over 3,100 tons of imported agricultural products, valued at around 134 million yuan. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on a case involving the smuggling of cashew nuts and figs. The domestic nut market in China has seen rapid growth, with a significant portion relying on imports, primarily from Vietnam. In 2020, the average tariff on 13 types of imported nuts was reduced to 10.7% to decrease import costs.
