This exotic weed, known by its showy nicknames, is found in a shipment of Paraguayan chia seeds. In the seaport of St. Petersburg, the state inspector of the North-Western Interregional Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor, during quarantine phytosanitary control of a batch of food chia seeds that arrived from Paraguay, found signs of contamination of products with seeds of a harmful plant similar in morphological features to a quarantine object included in the Unified List of Quarantine Objects EAEU. Laboratory examination, carried out by the St. Petersburg branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Grain Quality Assessment", confirmed the contamination of products, with a total weight of 27 tons, with a dangerous quarantine weed - Caroline nightshade (Solanum carolinense L.).
