European Union countries and the United Kingdom are increasing canola imports from Canada and Australia. The latter has been constantly increasing the area under Canadian rape (canola) since 2007. At the same time, according to the forecast of the European Commission, in the 2020/2021 marketing year, rapeseed production in the EU-27 will decrease compared to the previous season by 17% - from 6.2 million tons to 5.2 million tons. In turn, Stratégie Grains experts raised the estimate of total rapeseed imports to the EU-27 and the UK market to a record 6.7 million tonnes, while the previous estimate was 5.9 million tonnes. The main reason for the growth is the increase in canola purchases, due to the high processing margin in the European Union.
