Emilia Romagna's seed sector, a major contributor to the Italian agri-food industry, is facing significant threats due to recent climatic events. The region, home to 60% of the global sugar beet seed production, has seen extensive damage to seed crops, with floods affecting around 40% of the production. Other horticultural species also suffered damage, potentially leading to the shutdown of seed factories and impacting the sector's annual turnover of one billion euros. Assosementi, the association representing Italian seed companies, is seeking government support to mitigate these impacts and ensure the sector's continuity.
