The protected geographical indication for the Jászság summer truffle designates a fresh local version of the underground fungus species of the summer truffle (Tuber aestivum Vittad.) Collected in the designated geographical area. Its production area is located in Jászság in the Tarna and Zagyva valleys in the Northern Great Plain. The summer truffle of Jászság is mostly found naturally on the roots of oak, hazelnut and hornbeam, but it also grows on plantations, so-called Trifla gardens. In Jászság we typically find Trifla gardens created with oaks. The unique aroma of the Jászság summer truffle is most reminiscent of boiled corn or roasted and fermented barley malt, accompanied by the aroma of freshly mowed grass.
