The majority of traditional cereals in Ukraine are locally sourced, with the exceptions of rice and buckwheat, which are often imported from countries like Poland, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Vietnam, Laos, Pakistan, and India. Contraband cereals make up about 90% of the presented cereals at bazaars and shops, with the shadow production of cereals in Ukraine estimated to be around 30%, mainly produced by small farmers and individuals for sale at bazaars and fairs. The production of traditional cereals in Ukraine is decreasing, while half of the production of oat and corn grits is exported due to demand.
