The simultaneous pressures In September 2025, the Vietnamese rice industry faced a shock as two major ASEAN markets simultaneously changed their policies. The Philippines halted the import of regular milled rice and parboiled rice for 60 days, from September 1 to October 30, to protect domestic farmers from price fluctuations. At the same time, Indonesia announced it would not import rice for the rest of the year, citing abundant domestic production and the highest reserves in 57 years. According to Mr. Nguyễn Anh Sơn, Director of the Import and Export Department, in the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam exported nearly 6.37 million tons of rice, valued at over 3.26 billion USD, an increase of 3.7% in volume but a decrease of 15.4% in value compared to the same period in 2024 - a record export year.
