(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Jae-hoon = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs held the '6th Agricultural Products Supply and Demand Adjustment Committee for 2025' at the aT Center in Seoul on the 12th, discussing measures for the stable supply of key kimchi ingredients such as cabbage and radishes, according to the ministry.
The committee included government agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the National Data Agency, the Rural Development Administration, producer groups such as the Nonghyup Economic Holdings, and consumer groups.
The committee first checked the supply and demand situation of kimchi ingredients and discussed plans to utilize government reserves and contracted cultivation quantities to ensure the supply of cabbage, whose yield is not good.
Furthermore, the committee shared the progress of the supply and demand strategy for 2025 onions, which began in May, and agreed that expanding purchases and reserves, suppressing market shipments, and promoting consumption could reduce price and supply volatility in advance, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The committee also discussed the expansion of the functions of the committee, which will be elevated to a statutory committee ahead of the implementation of the revised 'Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Products Distribution and Price Stabilization Act' (Agricultural Products Act) in August next year.
Opinions were also shared on the agricultural supply and demand plans that need to be established under the revised Agricultural Products Act.
Park Jeong-hoon, Director of the Food Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We will actively utilize the Supply and Demand Adjustment Committee to ensure a stable supply of agricultural products by fully reflecting the opinions of the field."
