The 2021/2022 olive oil campaign ended with a record sales of 1.67 million tons, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). The next campaign is expected to see a significant reduction in production, around 780,000 tons, due to severe drought. However, the ministry believes that production may increase with upcoming rains. The average price of olive oil has increased by 27% due to rising production costs, improving producers' remuneration. The Ministry is cautious not to allow speculative situations and expects the link stocks of table olives to partially compensate for the reduced harvest, ensuring supply in the market.
