The Peruvian poultry sector plays a crucial role in the country's economy, contributing 24% to the gross value of agricultural production and providing employment for over 460,000 people directly and indirectly, supporting around 1.8 million people. The sector is responsible for supplying 70% of the animal protein consumed in Peru. According to the Peruvian Poultry Association (APA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Livestock (MIDAGR), the sector has seen growth, with a 12.7% increase in chicken production in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. The APA has also clarified common misconceptions about the sector, such as the use of hormones, the nutritional difference between white and brown eggs, and concerns about the safety of Peruvian chicken meat.
