Chicken and eggs are key ingredients in the diet of the Peruvian population and, therefore, in the country's food security. The Peruvian poultry sector accounts for 24% of the gross value of agricultural production; it provides direct and indirect employment to more than 460,000 Peruvians, thus supporting the livelihood of more than 1.8 million people; and is responsible for providing 70% of animal protein for families, a key nutrient in a balanced diet for the physical and mental development of the population.
