This year's conditions for growing sugar beet were very demanding for Polish farmers. The first sowing began at the end of March. At the beginning of the season, rainfall was alarmingly low. Growers had to deal with uneven and long emergence. In some locations there were dust storms that buried the emerging plants and thus damaged the leaves. The lack of rainfall made it difficult to carry out herbicide protection and did not ensure effective action of soil preparations. Farmers had to apply several herbicide treatments. In some regions, strong effects of summer drought in the form of loss of leaf mass were also noted. In regions where rainfall was recorded successively, a dynamic development of tassel was observed.
