The price of olive oil has plummeted by 43.7% over the last year (a -35.1% drop in the general category of oils and fats), a decline that coincides with a crucial moment in production, as the current campaign is about to conclude and less supply is expected for the 2025/2026 campaign.
The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 2.3% annually, four tenths lower than the previous month; this trend was largely due to fruit prices falling more than in August 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
By category, alongside oils and fats, sugar also led the annual declines (-19.3%) while the most inflationary categories were eggs (+17.8%) and coffee, cocoa, and infusions (+16.7%).
