In April 2022, Vietnam saw a significant increase in aquaculture production, with a 5.8% year-over-year growth to 380.4 thousand tons, including a 5% rise in fish and a 9.2% increase in shrimp. Pangasius, a key aquatic species, experienced an 8.5% increase, contributing to 31% of the total aquaculture output in the first four months of 2022. This surge in production has been accompanied by a sharp increase in pangasius prices, driven by various factors such as drought, saltwater intrusion, and rising oil prices, which have led to a supply shortage. Despite the challenges, the pangasius industry is on a positive trajectory, with exports to major markets like the US, China, and the EU experiencing significant growth. In anticipation of continued demand, pangasius exporters are confident and planning for substantial revenue growth in 2022.
