The Guadalajara Beekeepers Association is expecting a good honey harvest this spring, with an estimated 45,000 kilos of rosemary honey and a total of 180,000 kilos of honey, despite the loss of some hives from 'Filomena'. The president of the association, Ángel Marco, noted that the lack of excessive heat and rain, which have not yet affected the rosemary, has contributed to the quality of the honey. However, the sector has faced challenges due to the pandemic, with a 80% drop in sales in tourist areas and gas stations. Despite this, prices are maintained and the sector is reinventing itself through more online sales, which currently represent only 20% of total sales. The association has seen an increase in the number of beekeepers and beehives in recent years. Marco also highlighted the need for the 'Miel de la Alcarria' Denomination of Origin to become more transparent and modern, and to include new types of honey like lavender.
