A severe outbreak of H5N1 bird flu has been confirmed in a fattening turkey colony of about 5,500 birds in the Szárász settlement in Baranya County, Hungary, leading to mass animal culling and the imposition of strict control measures to curb the spread of the disease. The affected herd is being liquidated, and a protection and surveillance zone has been established around the farm, with similar measures being extended to the entire Bács-Kiskun county and a significant part of Csongrád-Csanád county. These measures include the mandatory slaughter of healthy birds, restrictions on the introduction of waterfowl stock, and bans on poultry and captive birds at fairs and exhibitions.
